The basic premise of All the Cool Parts is to introduce recent classical music recordings through some light commentary (with my own feelings and opinions thrown in) with excerpts from the CDs. It's my hope that you'll take what I present as a springboard for your own further discovery of this music.

ACP on hiatus this week
Just a note for the listeners - I'll be out of town most of this week, so there will be no new ACP this Friday. Expect a new episode on Friday, April 2nd!
ACP #4
This week on All the Cool Parts, I'm presenting four concertos of Japanese composer, Takashi Yoshimatsu. First up is his guitar concerto titled Pegasus Effect, and written for Japanese super guitarist Kazuhito Yamashita. Second is his trombone concerto Orion Machine, followed by his concerto for Soprano Saxophone Cyber-Bird. We end with his piano concerto Memo Flora.
I also wanted to mention that we still have not received any submissions for All the Cool Parts Idol. Up and coming artists - I want to promote your music - please submit! Also, our listener email has been light since the first episode. Please don't hesitate to ask me some questions for me to include on the show. Email me at allthecoolparts (at) gmail (dot) com.

ACP #3 - Zappa
This week on All the Cool Parts, I discuss the Ensemble Modern recording, The Yellow Shark, and the classical music of composer Frank Zappa. I talk about his music, and the misconceptions, and realities of Zappa and the perception of him and his legacy in popular culture.
Here are a few links to a few terms I use in the show:
Synclavier
Theme and Variations
I did reference Zappa's 1986 appearance on CNN's Crossfire - here it is:
I also thought this was interesting - Zappa's son Dweezil carrying his father's legacy in a recent series of concerts - previewed here:

Episode #2 - Requiem by Maurice Durufle
On this episode of All the Cool Parts, I discuss the St. Jacob's Chamber Choir's recording of the Requiem by Maurice Durufle. This choir is one of the best in the world - it is said by many that Sweden has the best choirs period - and the St. Jacob's Chamber Choir prove it on this recording. All this plus our first installment of listener email!
Here are links to more explanations of musical terms I used in this episode:
Canon
Imitation
Requiem Mass
Sylvius Leopold Weiss
In our listener email, I answer a few questions sent to us by John A. and Jerry G.. I also reference the following scene, and thought it only fair that I post it in the show notes.
